Brass Band Season 2017
Due to unforeseen circumstances the Friary Guildford Band have had to cancel their performance. If you have bought tickets we will be in touch with you shortly to give you a refund or a ticket swap for another brass band event.
The London & Southern Counties Regional Champion for the past three years running, Friary Guildford is now the undisputed top band in the South.
Seven years ago, Friary Guildford became the First Section National Champion, the first band from London & Southern Counties to have won this title, and earned promotion to the Championship (top) Section. The Band has since qualified for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at the Royal Albert Hall in each of the past five years, one of only nine bands in the whole of the UK to have done so.
Other major titles won in recent years include the British Open Senior Trophy in 2014, and Most Entertaining Band at the Butlin’s Mineworkers Championships in both 2015 and 2017. The Band was also invited to compete in the prestigious Brass in Concert entertainment contest at The Sage, Gateshead in 2015.
Away from the contest stage, Friary’s repertoire is broad: traditional and contemporary brass compositions; pop and rock; jazz, swing and big band standards; classical and opera; Salvation Army music and ever popular hymn tunes. Over the years, the Band has played at a wide range of special events, such as the RBS Six Nations and Gillette Four Nations Rugby internationals at Twickenham and Wembley Stadium, and QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.
