About the Subscription Rooms
The Subscription Rooms is the entertainment heart of Stroud and hosts year-round performances, exhibitions, classes and markets.
Built in 1833 by public subscription, hence the name, the venue still plays an important part in the artistic and civic life of the town.
The Ballroom can accommodate up to 450 people and presents all kinds of popular live music, comedy and theatre, workshops and classes. The great ballroom floor makes it a popular venue for dances and dance classes. The George Room, on the ground floor, hosts regular exhibitions where you can see some of the wealth of local artistic talent, as well as smaller scale performances and events. On the forecourt you will find regular street entertainment, markets and gatherings.
All of our spaces are available for hire as function rooms, meeting spaces or conferences. They are perfect for interviews, training sessions and recruitment fairs; trade shows, auctions and rehearsals.
The Subscription Rooms also hosts Stroud District Council’s Tourist Information Centre where you can purchase tickets for events at the Subscription Rooms and other venues throughout Stroud District, Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds. Offering a complete visitor service from maps to mansions, bikes, boating and brilliant places to visit, all your tourist questions are answered. We are also the sole outlet for National Express coach tickets in Stroud.
